International volunteers day: Celebrating emergency services volunteers
Published: 05.12.24
International Volunteer Day is celebrated on 5th December every year.
The day has existed since 1985 and marks volunteers and the spirit of volunteerism at local, national and international levels.
At Sugdens we work closely with volunteers from a number of organisations and would like to join in commending individuals involved in volunteering.
What is International Volunteer Day?
International Volunteer Day gives a unique opportunity for people and volunteer-involving organisations to work with government, agencies, non-profit institutions, community groups and more to weave together values of compassion and solidarity.
Whatever the challenge, whether climate change, conflict or social injustice, volunteerism and it’s spirit shines bright. In every corner of the world, when there is challenge, volunteers are usually the first to respond.
Volunteers create a richer culture within their community, bridging the gap between generations and groups.
The day is therefore a celebration of how volunteering contributes to building a better and more inclusive world.
Sugdens work with volunteers
Sugdens has supported a number of volunteer groups with their uniform needs.
In 2019, we supported Yorkshire Sculpture International (YSI) to deliver a series of exhibitions and events as part of the UK’s largest dedicated sculpture festival.
We were delighted to produce t-shirts worn by all YSI volunteers. Both a red and blue version were produced. These featured a ‘happy to help’ slogan and YSI logo added using heat seal technology. A further YSI logo, alongside our partner, Double Two’s, logo also featured on the sleeve.
A baseball cap was also provided.

Supporting emergency services volunteers
As part of the day, Sugdens would also like to commend the great work done by emergency services volunteers.
Emergency services volunteers can respond to emergencies like flooding, fires and power cuts, providing practical and emotional support; they can be trained to administer life-saving care; support healthcare systems; support refugees and help in charity shops.
Whatever your role is when volunteering with emergency services, we are truly grateful.
