SUGDENS IS SUPPORTING THE PARAMEDICS OF TOMORROW

This autumn we’ve been working closely with University of Suffolk to provide uniform that meets the university brand, is safe to wear and allows students to be easily identified.
The students received a wide range of products to cater for the different roles and responsibilities. Our bespoke ambulance range is the complete head to toe uniform solution, ensuring that students look the part, uniform is fit for purpose and is comfortable to wear and easy care, which is of paramount importance.
We spoke to Laura Swinfen, School Manager at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health at University of Suffolk to find out more.
A smart and professional uniform
Laura began, “As a course we were looking for a full order of uniform made specifically for our student paramedics. Ann at Sugdens worked with us to develop a smart and professional uniform which reflected the university branding and was safe for students to wear while on placement. It was vital that when completing operational shifts with the ambulance service that students were identifiable as ‘Student Paramedics’ at all times.
“Ann was very knowledgeable around this area which made this process much easier ensuring we were choosing the best items for our students, keeping the student in mind throughout.
“Every student received a set of polo shirts, trousers, soft shell jacket, high visibility jacket, trousers and boots. All students were also supplied with either year 1, 2 or 3 specific epaulettes to indicate which year of study they are in and slide inserts for the high visibility jacket ensuring students were always identifiable as student paramedics.
“The items are worn by student paramedics on the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science Programme at the University of Suffolk while completing operational shifts with the Ambulance Service. The uniform is also worn by students for completing clinical simulation sessions in university.”
Exactly what we were looking for
Laura continued, “We initially heard of Sugdens through word of mouth. Following research into their products it appeared they had exactly the sort of products we were looking for. Ann came to the university to meet the course team and talk us through the potential items we may have been interested in. This was a fantastic way of getting to see the items and understand which ones would be best for our students.
“Ann’s friendly and supportive approach to this process was great and we felt from the outset that Ann was keen to support us in creating the best uniform for our students.”
Students are very happy
She concluded, “Sugdens have met their requirements and our students are happy with the outcome, especially the non-iron quick dry polo shirts which are perfect for students. Despite some initial teething problems, Ann and the wider Sugdens’ team have been responsive and very helpful in sorting out any issues that we had.
“We are currently awaiting the arrival of our second order with Sugdens for paramedic science uniform and look forward to our students receiving this soon. We feel in time we will be able to provide a better overview of the uniform (having only received one full order last year) and now awaiting our new cohorts order, however, so far we are pleased with the standard of uniform and service we have received from Sugdens.
